Aluminum Finishes

The most popular aluminum finishes are Clear and Dark Bronze anodized. They are very durable and readily available.  Light Bronze, Medium Bronze and Champagne are also available on a per job basis.  Lead times vary and extra extrusions are usually ordered as insurance against something coming in damaged.
Black anodized is often stocked by our suppliers, but in a very limited supply.
Color wise, Clear anodized is pretty close between manufacturers, but Dark Bronze can vary significantly between our suppliers.  Some use a “Very Dark Bronze” which is very close to a Black anodized.

Factory painted finishes are durable and can make your facade ‘pop’.  Special products are used and must be baked on before the pour and de-bridge process.  You can chose from the manufacturer’s standard color chart or have them match a custom color.  Costs for painted finishes are significantly higher

Types of aluminum storefronts

The most common type of aluminum storefront is a 2″ x 4 1/2″ center set extrusion with a single thermal break (pour and de-bridge).
They are also available with a double thermal break to help meet current energy codes.
These extrusions offer decent resistance to heat transfer, are easier to install than other systems and can be be used in openings up to 12 feet tall.  Vertical butt glazing is an option to give the storefront a cleaner appearance.
Offshoots of this type of system include the more ridgid 2″ x 6″ extrusions as well as outside justified.
Examples of these are the Oldcastle Building Envelope 3000 and 6000 series systems as well as the Pittco TMS system.
